Altrusa International has adopted Days for Girls as its premier International project. Altrusa International Santa Maria Inc.'s annual Membership Tea on February 17, 2019, featured speakers from the Santa Barbara Team Days for Girls, who have provided feminine hygiene kits and health education to 150 school girls in developing communities. This makes it possible for them to confidently attend school every day of the month. DfG is bringing freedom and opportunity to women and girls around the world. The vision is to break the silence surrounding menstruation by changing the narrative from shame and embarrassment by celebration. With local partners, more girls and women are starting Days for Girls micro business, teaching health and receiving awesome washable DfG kits. Over 1 million girls and women have been reached in 110 countries on six continents, with over 1,200 plus chapters and teams supporting the program, and 15 countries with Enterprise programs. A DfG Kit costs, on average, $10.00 per kit to make. Cost will vary slightly per country due to local access to fabric and other resources.
